Deirdre and Maude the Boo-tiful Ghosts - FREE Crochet Pattern

Halloween ghosts but make them cutesy! I saw a macrame ghost wall hanging and decided to make a similar one, but with crochet. I'm thrilled with how they turned out, and my friends helped name them. Meet Deirdre and Maude, my boo-tiful ghost friends. Maude prefers a bow, but Deirdre is a fan of her flower crown. Both accessories are included in the pattern below.

Materials:

L hook (8mm)

Super bulky single ply yarn #6 (Fluff of the Andes) 1 skein 109 yds - Approximately 52 yds per ghost

H hook (5mm)

Worsted weight yarn #4

Abbreviations (US terms): 

Sl St – Slip Stitch 

CH – Chain 

SC – Single Crochet 

HDC – Half Double Crochet 

DC – Double Crochet 

St(s) – Stitch(es) 


Instructions:

Ch 18

1. DC in 3rd ch from hook, DC in remaining ch to last ch. 7HDC in last ch. Now working on the other side of the starting ch, DC in ea ch across. 

2. Ch 1, turn. SC in the first 15 sts, 2SC in the next 3 sts, SC in the next st, 2SC in the next st, SC in the last 15 sts.

3. Ch 2, turn (does NOT count as a st). DC in the first 15 sts. *2DC in the next st, DC in the next st.* Repeat 2 more times. DC in the next st. *DC in the next st, 2DC in the next st.* Repeat 2 more times. DC in last 15 sts.

4. Ch 1, turn. SC across. 

5. Ch 2, turn (does NOT count as a st). DC in the first 15 sts. *2DC in the next st, DC in the next 2 sts.* Repeat 2 more times. DC in the next st. *DC in the next 2 sts, 2DC in the next st.* Repeat 2 more times. DC in last 15 sts.

6. Ch 1, rotate so you are now working along the bottom edge. Sc 16 sts evenly along edge (2 sts per DC row, 1 st per SC row). 

7. Turn. Ch 15, 2SC in 2nd ch from hook, sl st into next ch. *2SC in next ch, sl st in next ch* Repeat in ea remaining ch. Sl st into next SC (not the same SC as turning ch). Sl st into next SC.

Repeat row 7 across. You should have 8 tails.


Eyes (make 2)

Worsted weight yarn

Ch 6, HDC in 2nd ch from hook. HDC in the next 3 sts, 3HDC in last st. Now working into the bottom of the starting ch, HDC in the next 3 sts, 2HDC in the last st. Sl st to first HDC to join. 

Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Sew onto ghost.

Ch 11

1. SC in 2nd ch from hook, and ea remaining ch. 10 sts

2. Ch 1, turn. SC in ea st across. 10 sts.

Repeat row 2 until you have 5 total rows.

Ch 1, sc around all sides of the rectangle, making 2SC in the corners. Cut yarn, pinch the middle of the rectangle and wrap some yarn around the middle to create a bow. Sew onto your ghost.

With yellow yarn, make magic ring, 

1. Sc 6 in magic ring. Pull ring closed, sl st to 1st sc to create first round.

2. Cut yellow yarn, add petal color. *Ch 2, 3DC in same st as join, ch 2, sl st in same st. 1 petal made. Sl st to next st.* Repeat in ea st around. (6 petals). 

3. Ch 7, cut petal yarn (if changing flower colors) and add yellow yarn. In 2nd ch from hook, make 6sc, and sl st to join.

Repeat step 2 to make the petals for the 2nd flower.

Repeat step 3

Repeat step 2 again for the third flower. Cut yarn, leaving long tail to sew flowers on.


Finishing

Weave in ends. Add blush if desired. Tie a piece of yarn or twine at the top/back of your ghost. Hang up on the wall and enjoy!
