Seed Stitch Baby Blanket - Free Knitting Pattern

I have wanted to make this baby blanket for a while now. I finally made the time for it because we were moving our youngest out of her crib, and I knew I needed to get photos in her nursery before we sold her baby furniture. So these are some of the final photos of her cute nursery. 

This beginner friendly pattern combines simple color changes with some fun texture. It works up quickly, and makes a great baby shower gift.

I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick for this simple and quick design. Or you can use your favorite super bulky yarn. Using my favorite row counters from Twice Sheared Sheep was incredibly useful for remembering when to change colors.

The finished blanket ended up 28x28 inches. Next time I might add more rows for a rectangle blanket.

Materials:

Size 15 needles - I used circulars with a longer cord

4 skeins Lion Brand WETQ in 2 colors - I used 1.5 skeins of the Blush, and just over 1 skein of the Fisherman

Row Counter - Optional

Abbreviations:

K - Knit

P - Purl

St (s) - Stitch(es)

Instructions:

Cast on 65 sts with your main color (you can adjust this number to make it wider, make sure you use an odd number of stitches)

1. *K1, p1* across. K last st

2-20.    Repeat row 1

Change color

21. K1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1. K to last 6 sts. P1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1.

22. K1, p1, k1, p1, k1. P to last 5 sts. K1, p1, k1, p1, k1.

23-40. Repeat last 2 rows.

Change color

41. Repeat row 21.

42-60. K1, p1 across.

Change color

61-80. Repeat rows 21-40.

Change color

81-100. Repeat rows 41-60.

Finishing:

Bind off knitwise (not too tightly). Weave in ends.

Liana Cup Cozy - Free Pattern

I recently purchased some amazing hand dyed yarn from my friend Liana. She has a small business called Wearable Personality, and she makes some amazing yarn. I had been eyeing her gorgeous yarn for a while, and finally treated myself to a skein of Winter Berry on bulky. I made myself a hat and instantly fell in love! Finished Size:
Finished cozy measures approximately 3-3.25 inches wide

Materials:
Size 9 (5.5mm) US needles
Bulky Weight Yarn #5 (Lion Brand Color Made Easy) Approximately 50 Yards
Or alternatively, a thick Worsted Weight or Aran Weight will work with minor gauge differences.

Cable Needle
Scissors
Needle for weaving in ends
Button – 1 ¼ inch
Tape Measure – For checking gauge, and length of cozy before finishing

Gauge:
16 sts in garter stitch, 24 rows = 4 inches
I tend to knit tightly so check your gauge and adjust needle size accordingly.

Abbreviations:
CO – Cast on
K – Knit
P – Purl
C3F – Cable 3 Front
St(s) – Stitch(es)
RS – Right Side
WS – Wrong Side
BO – Bind off

Notes:

- I use the long-tail cast on to begin the project.

- I use locking or clasp stitch markers to mark the cable rows so I know how many rows I’ve done in between.

- Repeat sections will be noted with *  *

- I use the Cable Cast on for one of the button-hole rows.

Special Stitches:

C3F – Cable 3 Front: (a cable worked over 6 stitches)

Slip 3 stitches onto cable needle.
Hold the cable needle in FRONT.
Knit the next 3 stitches on the left needle.
Knit the 3 stitches that are on the cable needle.

Repeat rows 10-23 until you reach desired length, ending with a RS row. I used my favorite mug to test the length and needed 10 ½ inches. Now work the button-hole rows.

Finishing:
Weave in ends. Attach a button on the side of the cup cozy. Make your favorite hot beverage, wrap your mug or cup in your brand-new cup cozy and enjoy!

Super Chunky Infinity Scarf - Free Knitting Pattern

It's been awhile since my last post. Life, baby, the holiday season, and my Etsy shop kept me very busy. I did not plan my 2019 blog posts very well, so I did not have content to publish during my busy season. That is my goal for 2020. I am hoping to get blog posts and patterns ready during my slower season in 2020, so that when the rush hits, I can still publish some new things for you.

I am ending the 2019 year with a free knitting pattern. I wanted a super chunky scarf to coordinate with some of the hats in my wardrobe. But I also wanted it to work up quickly, because I have so much to do, with so little time to do it. Enter the Daphne scarf! Knit with size 50 needles, and 2 strands of super bulky yarn, this might just be the coziest thing I have ever made! And it is a super simple pattern, which makes it perfect for knitting while watching Netflix.

Size:
Finished scarf measures approximately 68-70 inches long, and 6 inches wide. I wrap it around my neck twice.

Materials:
Size50 (25mm) US needles, the ones I purchased are circular needles
Super Bulky Weight Yarn #6 (Wool Ease Thick & Quick) Approximately 186 yards (just less than 2 skeins)
Scissors
Needle for weaving in ends
Tape Measure – For checking gauge, and length of scarf before finishing off

Gauge:
5 sts in garter st, 7 rows = 4 inches
Check your gauge and adjust needle size accordingly.

Abbreviations:
CO – Cast on
K – Knit
St(s) – Stitch(es)

Notes:
-This scarf is made holding and knitting 2 strands of yarn together.
-I used the thumb cast on.
-Alternatively, you can use a provisional cast on and garter graft to close infinity scarf.

Instructions:

Using size 50 needles and holding 2 strands of yarn together,
-CO 8 sts (or alternatively, provisional cast on 8 sts)
-Knit across, turn (8 sts)
-Repeat the previous row until your scarf measures approximately 68-70 inches (or desired length)
-Bind off knitwise (or alternatively, keep sts on needles for garter graft - see above tutorial link)
-Sew ends together, I like to put 1 twist in the scarf before sewing.

Finishing:
Weave in any remaining ends. Wrap it around your neck for the coziest snow day ever!

Reagan Earwarmer - Free Knitting Pattern

What do you do with 66 yards of yarn? I made a hat using some yarn that my husband put in my Christmas stocking. I had used over 2 thirds of it and really wanted to find something to do with the rest so I didn't end up adding to my box of leftover yarn. And that is how the Reagan Earwarmer pattern was born! Sizes:

Adult – One Size

Materials:

Size 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular needles

Worsted Weight Yarn #4 – I used a little less than 66 yards

1 ¼  inch button

Scissors

Needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

22 sts in 1x2 ribbing pattern = 4 inches. This is BEFORE stretch.

The ribbing pattern is super stretchy so it will look small (my earwarmer measures between 15 and 16 inches before stretch, but it stretches to fit my 22.5 inch head nicely)

I tend to knit tightly, so check your gauge and adjust needle size accordingly.

Abbreviations:

CO – Cast on

K – Knit

Purl – Purl

St(s) – Stitch(es)

RS – Right Side

WS – Wrong Side

Notes:

To adjust size, cast on in multiples of 3.

I used the long-tail cast on method.

For binding off, either bind of loosely, or use a super stretchy bind off like this:

Instructions:

Cast on 90 sts (long-tail cast on). Join to start working in the round.

*K1, p2* repeat around

Keep repeating 1x2 ribbing until it measures approximately 4 inches from cast on edge.

Bind off loosely, or use super stretchy bind off (see link above)

Finishing:

Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Pinch the earwarmer and sew with the yarn tail (see photo below). Sew on button of choice.

Hannah Hair Bow - Free Knitting Pattern

My 2 year old loves hair accessories. She often opens the drawer where I keep all the headbands and hair clips and asks to wear one. She also throws a fit when I take it off, we are working on that part. Because of her love of hair accessories, I knew I needed to have a red bow for her 2nd birthday earlier this year. I was really wanting to do a knitted version of a bow so I created the "Hannah" Hair Bow just for this special occasion. But it really is a versatile piece that I want to do in all the colors possible to match every outfit. I wrote down the pattern to share with you. I also have the free pattern in pdf form on my Ravelry shop. Enjoy!

Materials:

Size 6, 4mm needles

Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft)
Scissors
Needle for weaving in ends
Optional - Hot Glue Gun
Optional - Hair Clip
Optional - Nylon Headband

Abbreviations:
K - Knit
Purl - Purl
St - Stitch
RS - Right Side
WS - Wrong Side

Instructions:

Long tail cast on 10 (alternatively, if you do not want to to a long tail cast on, thumb cast on 10, and knit 1 row before starting row 1 below)

1. K across

2. Slip 1 st purlwise, P rest of row

3. Slip 1 st knitwise, k rest of row

4-19. Repeat last 2 rows until you have 17 rows stockinette, ending with a rs row.

20. (WS) Cast off knitwise

Finishing:

Weave in ends.

Option 1:

Cut long length of yarn (I use approximately 1 yard). 

Weave needle through the center (see photo). 

Pinch center of bow. Wrap yarn around center of bow 10 times. 

Knot in the back and weave in ends. 

Using hot glue gun, glue center of bow to hair clip of choice.

Option 2:

Cut long length of yarn (1 yard). Weave needle through the center (see photo above). Pinch center of bow. 

Wrap yarn around the center of the bow AND a nylon headband. 

Knot in the back and weave in ends.

Lacy Baby Headband - Free Knitting Pattern

I first opened up my Etsy shop with some baby headbands and booties. The headbands were a little knitting pattern I developed in my own head. I feel like it is time to write it down and share it with you. See pattern below, or you can download a pdf version on my Ravelry store HERE.

-Materials
Size 3 knitting needles
Worsted Weight yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft)
Scissors
Needle for weaving in ends

-Abbreviations
CO - cast on
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
K - knit
P - purl
YO -yarn over
K2TOG - knit 2 together
BO - bind off

-Gauge
20 sts, 44 rows, garter stitch = 4"

-Sizes
Instructions are for 0-3 months with (3-6 months, 6-9 months) in parenthesis.

-Pattern
Using thumb method, CO 72 (80, 88) sts.
Row 1. WS - Knit across
Row 2. RS - Knit across
Row 3. WS - K 2 sts, *yo, k2tog*. Repeat * * until 2 sts from the end. K 2 sts.
Row 4. RS - Knit across
Row 5. WS - K 1 st, *yo, k2tog*. Repeat * * until 1 st from the end. K 1 st.
Row 6. RS - Knit across
Row 7. WS - K 2 sts, *yo, k2tog*. Repeat * * until 2 sts from the end. K 2 sts.
Row 8. RS - Knit across
Row 9. WS - Knit across
Row 10. RS - BO using a loose bind off or you can use the alternate bind off below

-Finishing
Using needle, sew ends together. Attach your favorite flower or bow at the seam to help hide where you sewed it together. See below for my favorite flower pattern to go with this headband.

-Crochet Flower Pattern
I modified a version of this pattern HERE

Using G hook (4mm)
Ch 4 (Magic circle does not work with this flower pattern)
Sl st in 1st chain to form a circle
Prep: Ch 1
Round 1. *Ch 3, sc in circle* Repeat 3 more times (you will have 4 loops at this point). Ch 3, sl st into Ch 1 in prep round (now you have 5 loops)
Round 2. In first ch 3 loop, (sc, ch 1, 3dc, ch 1, sc). Repeat in the rest of the loops. Join to the first sc of the first petal.
Round 3. Fold the petals toward yourself so you can work behind them to make the next layer of the flower. Still working in the circle made from the ch 4 at the beginning, *sc, ch 4*. Repeat 3 more times (you will have 4 loops at this point). Ch 4, sl st to first sc. (now you have 5 loops)
Round 4. In the first ch 4 loop, (sc, hdc, dc, 3 tr, dc, hdc, sc). Repeat in each ch 4 loop around. Join with sl st to the first sc of the first petal of the round. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing to headband.

-Finishing
Sew a pretty button in the center of your flower. Sew the flower to the headband, weaving in any remaining ends.
